Pemilihan Umno ditangguh hingga Mac

Pemilihan Umno ditangguh hingga Mac
Jimadie Shah Othman | Sep 26, 08 12:11pm

Presidennya Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi bagaimanapun enggan mengulas lanjut tentang peralihan kuasa.

“Saya cintakan parti saya.

Muda Mohd Noor | Sep 17, 08 3:39pm

Khairy runs for Youth chief

Khairy Jamaluddin says he had to study and collect feedback from the party grassroots before he could announce his bid for the Youth chief postREMBAU: Khairy Jamaluddin announced yesterday that he would contest the Umno Youth chief's post at party elections in December, ending months of speculation.

Khairy, the Umno Youth deputy chief and member of parliament for Rembau said he took a longer time to decide to run for the post as he needed to study and collect feedback from the party grassroots.

"The decision (to contest) is not mine solely but was reached by all Umno Youth members in the branches and divisions who want me as well as support my quest to continue Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein's fight for the party."

Hishammuddin will not be defending the post which he has held for 10 years.

"I am lucky that I was able to work under Hishammuddin for eight years, four years as an exco and the remaining four as his deputy.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate Hishammuddin for his successful 10-year tenure," he said at the Rembau Umno Youth service centre here.

Khairy, who announced his decision to an audience including 40 Umno Youth division leaders and five Umno Youth state leaders, said his agenda for the Youth wing would be based on the motto "Setia Kawan" or "Friendship and Unity".

Also present was Umno Youth secretary Datuk Rahman Dahalan and treasurer Datuk Abdul Hamid Mohd Nazahar.

"We want to stress friendship and unity not only among the youth in Umno and BN but among all Malaysian youths as well.

"I am not contesting solely as an Umno Youth member but as a Malaysian as I carry with me a national agenda," he said.

Khairy, 32, is the fourth candidate to enter the race. The others are former Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Mohd Khir Toyo, Jerlun MP Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir and Padang Besar Umno Youth head Datuk Zahidi Zainal Abidin.

He described the other contenders as reputable, credible and possessing their own strengths.

"I have a lot of respect for the other contenders as they are my seniors, hence more experienced," he said, adding that the credibility of the other aspirants proved the Youth wing's high reputation.

When asked who would be contesting the deputy's post, he said no individuals had offered themselves.

"No one has come forward so far, so anyone interested can offer themselves. It is a democratic process and I leave it to the divisions and representatives to ensure an eligible leader is chosen for the post."

PM terkejut dengan kenyataan Muhyiddin

PM terkejut dengan kenyataan Muhyiddin
Sep 11, 08 3:13pm

Felda Palong Timur 5

Punches and chairs thrown at Felda Umno branch meet
By MEERA VIJAYAN

SEGAMAT: A fight broke out at the Felda Palong Timur 5 Umno branch meeting after several members claimed they were unhappy with the results of the nominations.

Punches were traded and chairs thrown during the commotion at 6pm on Saturday.

It is learnt that when the votes for the division chief post was tallied, incumbent Datuk Othman Jais lost to newcomer Shaifuddin Ali Hanafiah.

Othman, 61, in his sixth term, is the longest-serving state assemblyman in Johor.

Branch chief Poninan Panijo said Othman’s supporters were unhappy with the results and demanded that members cast their votes again.

“It was also agreed that after voting, all those who cast their votes for Othman would leave the hall,” he said.

At the end of the voting, it was found that only 28 people left the hall, leading to Shaifuddin’s victory once again, which sparked off the fight after a war of words.

Poninan said that in the fight, punches and harsh words were exchanged.

“The legs of several chairs were also broken,” he said.

He added that at the end of the fight, Othman, who is the Segamat division chief, instructed that the branch elections be valid, but the division post elections would be cancelled.

Shaifuddin, 47, a former Segamat Umno Youth chief, already has eight nominations in hand, and needs the nominations from this branch to be able to contest for the division chief post.

When contacted, Othman denied that there had been a fight and said only an argument had ensued when several voters who had allegedly not paid their membership fees voted.

The police confirmed that no police report had been lodged over the incident.

It was the second rowdy Umno meeting in the past few days. On Friday, rotten eggs were thrown during the Sungai Machang Hilir branch meeting near Seremban.

The meeting became unruly after a group of members started to protest against some financial statements, loss of membership forms and delays in sending out the notices for the meeting.

This is also the second time a fight has broken out during Umno branch meetings in Johor in the past month.

On Aug 3, the Sedili Kecil Umno branch meeting erupted into a war of words between a supporter of Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar and a supporter of Daing A. Malik Daing A. Rahman, who is vying for the position of Kota Tinggi division chief

Rotten eggs flung at Umno meeting

SEREMBAN, MALAYSIA: The Sungai Machang Hilir Umno branch meeting turned chaotic on Friday as members began pushing and shoving each other, some even resorting to throwing rotten eggs.

The meeting, which was opened by Seremban Umno division vice-chief Md Nor Awang at 3pm, became unruly after a group among the 127 members began protesting over some financial statements, delays in receiving notices for the meeting and the loss of 40 new membership forms.

As soon as the situation became chaotic, an observer, Kamaruddin Malan, advised the chairman to adjourn the meeting.

"I was disappointed when the chairman insisted on continuing with the meeting and nominations.

"I told him that a decision would be difficult to come by in such chaos, but he insisted."

He said the situation worsened when some members began throwing rotten eggs.

"Some party members and I tried to get the women and children out of the hall."

Kamaruddin said he then contacted Seremban Umno division chief Datuk Ishak Ismail, who agreed that the meeting should be postponed.

"Despite all this, the chairman was adamant the meeting should continue.

"I walked out of the meeting and lodged a report at the Lenggeng police station," he said.
